English: Run in, day 3 Spey 2007 Last part of the race, after several kilometres off the paths in the forest in the background, all that remains is an all out sprint for the finish. Normally this field is used to graze the cattle of Balnespick.
Unlike most other athletic sports, orienteering involves several races at once. These runners will all be on different courses, 38 in all. Some of the courses are also shared by different age groups, so there are even more than 38 races. As well as being divided by sex and age, competitors have a choice of distance too. Another feature of the sport is that all ages take part and you can share your last few hundred metres with young children or octogenarians. |
